The Philanthropic Mission of the Elie Hirschfeld Foundation

The Elie Hirschfeld Foundation and its founder Elie Hirschfeld view philanthropy as the voluntary promotion of human welfare. Mr. Hirschfeld deeply values giving back to the community, and contributing to enhance, promote and grow organizations that make a positive impact on individuals and larger communities he is aligned with.

Elie Hirschfeld has identified four key areas where his foundation is focused on providing ongoing support and philanthropic giving:

Education. Elie Hirschfeld believes in the transformative, positive power that education offers to individuals and society. He is committed to supporting many of the best institutions of higher education in the world, including Brown University, where he earned his undergraduate degree and currently serves as Trustee Emeritus. He also gives generously to New York University, where he attended law school. The Hirschfeld Foundation also supports a number of schools and universities attended by Elie Hirschfeld’s children.

Healthcare. Elie Hirschfeld initiated his philanthropic efforts in the healthcare arena following the birth of his first two children at Roosevelt Hospital, now Mt. Sinai West, in New York City. Today, the Hirschfeld Foundation supports several hospitals that have partnered with Roosevelt, including St. Luke’s and Beth Israel. Elie Hirschfeld currently serves on the Board of Overseers for all these healthcare institutions.

Jewish Causes. The Elie Hirschfeld Foundation benefits and offers ongoing support to the synagogue that Elie Hirschfeld attends, as well as the Jewish National Fund and the City of Beitar in Israel. The foundation takes a special pride in supporting the Weizmann Institute, which is an Israel-based organization that is also a leading international driver in advancing health research, scientific advancement, and education that is reshaping and improving the future in each of these critical areas.

Athletics. Elie Hirschfeld has been an avid runner and dedicated triathlete all of this life. He takes great pleasure in participating in a variety of sports and athletic events both competitively and socially. Elie Hirschfeld sees athletic pursuits as a meaningful way to be one’s personal best, and meet challenges with vigor and stamina. The Elie Hirschfeld Foundation supports a variety of organizations related to Elie Hirschfeld’s athletic interests, including the Central Park Conservancy, SwimFree.org, and the New York Road Runners Club.

Although the four areas above are key focus areas that consistently draw strong support from the Elie Hirschfeld Foundation, organizations in other areas are also included in consideration for support from the Foundation. Diverse beneficiaries of foundation funds have included organizations such as the Hudson Swim for Life, the Alan T. Brown Foundation, and Demos.org.

Elie Hirschfeld frequently accepts leadership roles in organizations supported by the Hirschfeld Foundation.
